Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner and new Maglia Rosa Jarno Widar said: “It feels great to win the first mountain stage again one year later. It’s also a different feeling because last year Jorgen Nordhagen was sick. It’s nice to finish like this. Jorgen and I made a plan together because we love hard racing. Nobody was riding with us so I let him go. Then Red Bull came and rode immediately at a strong pace. I was feeling good and I just needed to follow. It’s difficult to say that I was confident against Lorenzo Finn. He’s a first year u23 but already very strong. I didn’t know if he was playing with me in the last kilometre so I was a bit nervous. Luckily I finished it off. Only on Sunday we’ll see if I win the Giro NextGen again”.
